The areas

Four neighbourhoods, one peninsula

I only work on the Bukit. Here's how the four areas differ, and which of my homes are in each.

Pecatu

Quiet lanes, real neighbourhood

Pecatu

Pecatu is the village that covers much of the western Bukit. Away from the cliff-front, it's residential streets, local warungs and family compounds, a few minutes from Nyang Nyang and central Uluwatu.

You get more house for your money here, and it's where most of my one- and two-bedroom villas are.

Best for: longer stays, remote workers, couples who want calm.

My homes here

Uluwatu

Cliffs, views and space

Uluwatu

The clifftop around Uluwatu Temple has dramatic ocean views, some of the best sunsets on the island, and bigger villas with more land around them.

It's more spread out than Bingin, so you'll ride more, but you get space and the view.

Best for: families, bigger groups, people who want views.

My homes here

Bingin

The village with the surf

Bingin

Bingin is the Bukit's most characterful neighbourhood: a proper village with good cafés and warungs, independent shops and a world-class wave at the bottom of the cliff.

The roads are narrow and the beach is a lot of stairs, but for surfers and anyone who wants local life, it's hard to beat.

Best for: surfers, walkers, people who want a village feel.

My homes here

Padang Padang

The middle ground

Padang Padang

Padang Padang sits between Bingin and Uluwatu in both location and feel. It has one of the easier beaches to reach on the Bukit and a growing café scene, without the resort feel of the clifftop.

Best for: families, beach swimmers.
